Second Neuralink brain chip recepient doing well: Elon Musk

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is optimistic about Neuralink, his brain-computer interface company, and predicts that its brain chip will see widespread adoption in the coming decade. He envisions that, if all goes as planned, Neuralink could have hundreds of users in a few years, tens of thousands in five years, and millions within ten years.

The excitement comes after promising results from the second person to receive the Neuralink implant, known as Alex. Alex received the implant last month at the Barrow Neurological Institute, and the surgery went smoothly, with Alex discharged the next day. Since then, he has been making impressive progress, using the chip to enhance his video game skills and learn computer-aided design (CAD) software to create 3D objects.

Neuralink is enthusiastic about the chip’s potential to help individuals with paralysis. They believe it could greatly improve control over digital devices for people with quadriplegia and help restore their independence. Alex is already applying his new CAD skills to bring his design ideas to life during his free time, showcasing the chip’s potential for creative and practical uses.

The first Neuralink recipient, Noland Armagh, has demonstrated the ability to control a computer or phone purely through thought, a significant milestone for the company. Neuralink is working on adding more complex functions, such as multiple clicks and simultaneous movements, to achieve full control of mice and controllers.

Looking ahead, Neuralink aims to expand the chip’s capabilities beyond digital devices. They plan to develop technology that allows users to interact with the physical world, such as controlling robotic arms or wheelchairs, which would significantly boost their independence.
