Thousands of people who had gathered to see the historic launch celebrated the rocket as it rose into the sky.
Scientists hope to master soft-landing on the lunar surface with the Chandrayaan-3 mission, which is scheduled to launch in late August. If the mission is successful, India will be only the fourth country after the United States, China, and the erstwhile Soviet Union to accomplish the uncommon accomplishment.
Chandrayaan 3 is the successor mission to Chandrayaan 2, which failed to achieve the intended soft landing on the moon’s surface in 2019, disappointing scientists.
