PhonePe has announced a major collaboration with OpenAI that will allow Indian users to access ChatGPT directly within its digital ecosystem. The integration will be available across the PhonePe app, PhonePe for Business, and the Indus Appstore, marking one of the first large-scale rollouts of ChatGPT on a major Indian consumer platform.
With this partnership, PhonePe aims to bring generative AI to millions of users, enabling them to explore ChatGPT’s capabilities for daily tasks such as travel planning, shopping assistance, information discovery, and more. The move is expected to significantly accelerate AI adoption in India by embedding the technology into an app used widely across the country.
Rahul Chari, Founder and Chief Technology Officer at PhonePe, said the collaboration highlights how partnerships can help bring advanced technology to a much larger audience. “This collaboration demonstrates how companies can work together to expand the reach of cutting-edge technology at population scale,” he said.
Oliver Jay, Head of International at OpenAI, said the tie-up underscores India’s growing significance in the global AI landscape. “India is a hub for innovation, and PhonePe’s deep understanding of its user base makes it an ideal partner,” Jay said. “This partnership will help demonstrate the value of consumer AI across India.”
The integration is expected to open the door for new AI-powered use cases as generative technology becomes more accessible to everyday digital users in India.
