The cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, which provides services to several sectors, went down Friday morning in numerous industries throughout the globe, stopping news broadcasts and grounding flights.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, all flights were halted by at least three major U.S. airlines: American, United and Delta. The New South Wales Police Force in Australia reported a system failure on social media. Just as many people were starting their weekends, there were still problems at Sydney Airport, one of the biggest and busiest transportation hubs in Australia.

Although Microsoft said on Friday that the root cause of a worldwide outage has been fixed, some Office 365 apps and services are still being impacted by cybersecurity outages.

Microsoft 365 Status wrote on X, “The underlying cause has been fixed, however, residual impact is continuing to affect some Microsoft 365 apps and services. We’re conducting additional mitigations to provide relief.”

George Kurtz, the president and CEO of CrowdStrike, gave updates on X, pointing out that the disruption was related to a problem found in a single content update for Windows systems. Kurtz stated that Mac and Linux computers were untouched, adding that this was not the result of a cyberattack or security breach.
