Gemini’s expansion within the Google ecosystem is gaining momentum, with its integration into Google Messages following recent relaxations on restrictions since June 18.
According to MySmartPrice, Gemini in Google Messages will soon enable users to draft messages, engage in entertaining conversations, and even plan events, among other functionalities. However, the exact appearance and capabilities of Gemini may vary from user to user.
Accessing Gemini is straightforward: simply tap the New Chat button at the bottom, then select the AI from the options presented. As reported by Android Police, Gemini will manifest as a floating action button (FAB) adorned with its logo, positioned prominently above the contacts list. This implementation aims to streamline access, minimizing the taps needed to activate Gemini within Google Messages.
Functionally, Gemini allows users to pose queries or request assistance, such as meal planning suggestions, with enhanced accessibility thanks to its FAB placement. Notably, Android Police highlights that the FAB dynamically adjusts the compose button size as users scroll, ensuring smooth integration into the messaging experience.
However, there are important considerations regarding privacy and usage terms. Upon initial access, users will encounter terms and conditions detailing Gemini’s operations. Conversations with the AI are not encrypted, prompting caution regarding sensitive information disclosure. Gemini does not access private conversations or exact locations but may infer general location data based on IP addresses or other information.
Furthermore, chats are stored locally on the device for default periods of 18 months, customizable to three or 36 months. To use Gemini, users must meet specific criteria, including having an Android phone with 6GB of RAM or more, active RCS chats, and device language set to English or Canadian French.
For those eager to explore Gemini’s capabilities, keep an eye out for the upcoming rollout, expected in the coming weeks, bringing this AI assistant to Android devices equipped with Google Messages.
