PUBG Mobile announces its return to India in a new avatar tailored for the Indian market, parent company PUBG Corporation announced on Thursday. Tech Crunch tweeted last about the South Korean gaming firm’s plot to return to its second-largest internet market, two months after it was banned in the country. The company emphasised its plans to invest $100 million in India to support the Indian video game, esports, entertainment, and IT industries ecosystems and said it plans to hire over 100 employed in India.
“Thanks to overwhelming community enthusiasm for PUBG esports in India, the company also plans to make investments by hosting India-exclusive esports events, which will feature the biggest tournaments, the largest prize pools, and the best tournament productions,” it said in a statement.
The company did not share the exact date of the release of the game, which it says has been custom made for India.
Centre had banned over 200 apps over their suspected Chinese links which included PUBG Mobile over cybersecurity concerns. To relieve the concerns of the Indian government, PUBG Mobile has cut its ties with Chinese internet giant, Tencent, which was its publisher in the Indian market. The company announced that it had signed a global deal with Microsoft to move all PUBG Mobile data along with the data from its other properties to Azure.
“Privacy and security of Indian player data being a top priority for PUBG Corporation, the company will conduct regular audits and verifications on the storage systems holding Indian users’ personally identifiable information to reinforce security and ensure that their data is safely managed,” PUBG corporation said in a statement on Thursday.
PUBG Corporation’s move might set a precedence for other impacted apps to plan their returns to the country. Now, the Indian Government’s decision on the upliftment of ban is awaited.
