Strands is a fresh, daily puzzle from the New York Times that offers a tricky twist on the classic word search. You’ll need sharp eyes to solve it.
How to Play NYT Strands
In each Strands puzzle, your goal is to find the “theme words” hidden within a grid of letters. You manipulate the letters by dragging or tapping to form words and double-tap the final letter to confirm a word. If you find a theme word, the letters are highlighted blue and become unselectable.
Even if you find non-theme words, they can still help! For every three non-theme words (at least four letters long) you find, you receive a hint—one of the theme words’ letters will be revealed, and you just need to unscramble it.
Every letter in the grid is used exactly once to spell out theme words with no overlap.
Each puzzle includes one “spangram,” a special theme word that describes the puzzle’s theme and spans from one side of the board to the other. When found, it will be highlighted yellow.
Your goal is to complete the puzzle quickly with as few hints as possible.
