Strands is a fresh and challenging daily puzzle from the New York Times. This twist on the classic word search demands sharp observation skills and a knack for pattern recognition.

Like Wordle, Connections, and the Mini Crossword, Strands can sometimes stump even the most seasoned puzzlers. If today’s Strands puzzle has you scratching your head, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered with the answers below.

How to play Strands

In Strands, your mission is to uncover the “theme words” hidden in a grid of letters. To find these words, you manipulate the letters by dragging or tapping them, then double-tap the final letter to confirm your word. When you successfully find a theme word, the letters will turn blue and become unselectable.

Finding non-theme words also helps! For every three non-theme words (at least four letters long) you discover, you’ll earn a hint—letters from one of the theme words will be revealed, which you’ll then need to unscramble.

Every letter in the grid is used exactly once, with no overlap. Each puzzle also features one “spangram,” a special theme word (or words) that spans from one side of the board to the opposite side. When you find the spangram, it will be highlighted in yellow.

The aim is to solve the puzzle as quickly as possible, ideally without using too many hints.
