Connections is the latest brain teaser from The New York Times, challenging you to sort 16 words into four hidden categories based on how they relate to each other. Each day at midnight, a new puzzle arrives with varying levels of difficulty. Much like Wordle, you can track your winning streak and compare scores with friends.

Some days, the puzzle is tougher than usual. If today’s Connections puzzle has you stumped, don’t worry! We’ve got some tips and hints to help you out. And if you’re still stuck, the answers are at the end.

How to Play NYT Connections

In Connections, you’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your goal is to group these words into four sets of four, based on their connections. These connections could be anything, like video game franchises, book series sequels, shades of red, or names of chain restaurants.

Sometimes words might seem like they fit multiple themes, but there’s only one correct solution. You can shuffle the grid and rearrange the words to spot the connections more easily.

Each group is color-coded: yellow is the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple.

  1. Pick four words and hit Submit.
  2. Correct Guess: The words will be removed, and their theme revealed.
  3. Incorrect Guess: It counts as a mistake. You have four mistakes before the game ends.
