With the launch of iPhone 12, Apple may discontinue its older models, namely the iPhone XR, according to new reports. The new iPhones are expected to be released by October under the iPhone 12 series which would include two premium warrants. The discontinuation of iPhone XR, which made its debut in 2018 and became a hot-selling device within no time is attributed to a few reasons.
“They cite the availability of the more powerful iPhone SE 2020 as a better alternative rather than reducing the price of XR again,” reported iAppleTimes.
In addition, the iPhone XR is considered to be less appealing than the iPhone 11 which has broken several records till date and has an upper hand in terms of battery life and features like dual camera. The price difference is also not huge. The step is also seen as a measure to reduce confusion among consumers with the launch of four new models which will be aggressively priced.
This will not be the first time that Apple axe devices that don’t fit in their portfolio. Last year, it iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max have discontinued the launch of iPhone 11 series and before that, the sales of iPhone X was stopped with the launch of iPhone XS.
Apple might also discontinue iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. There will be a considerable drop in the price of other models as well.
