YouTube has announced the launch of a short form video experience called YouTube Shorts. This feature will allow users, initially in India to upload a 15 second or less short form videos.

Users can make videos using a set of creator tools like a multi-segment camera, speed controls, a timer and a countdown feature. The videos can also be set to music.

The feature will be highlighted within the YouTube app on android and will be expanded later into ios as well.

YouTube announced earlier this summer that it has begun testing on a short-form video feature but did not reveal many details. At that time YouTube had said that the test would involverecording15 second videos on both ios and android.

YouTube shorts will feature countless number of tracks from partners like T-Series and Believe Digital. It is also working with music, artists, labels and publishers to make the content vaster.

YouTube says that the feature is rolling out in India in the next few days. If one has the Shorts camera then they can start creating videos by hitting the plus icon. If you see “create short video” as an option then you have the Shorts camera.

After TikTok’s potential exit from the country, many rival social media platforms have been developed. Instagram has also developed ‘Reels’ feature which is very similar to that of TikTok and now even YouTube has entered the game by launching YouTube Shorts.
