After a prolonged face-off on India-China border and tension between the two countries, the Government of India announced a ban on 59 Chinese apps including SHAREit and TikTok. The decision was taken by the Ministry of Electronics.
Explaining the reason behind this giant step, the ministry stated, “These apps are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of state and public order.”
As per the Indian Cyber Crime Coordinate Centre, Chinese apps were posing a serious threat to the security of India. To protect the data privacy of Indian population, this step was mandatory.
