The much-anticipated software updates for the 5G network in India will reportedly start going out to certain users as early as next week, according to tech giant Apple.

As Apple starts rolling out its iOS 16 Beta software upgrade, the service will be made accessible. Users of iOS devices from Reliance Jio and Airtel who are enrolled in the Beta programme will initially be able to access 5G services. By the end of the year, the upgrade will be gradually sent out to all other users after this.

For customers of four important phone models—the iPhone 12, iPhone SE, iPhone 13, and iPhone 14—Apple will deliver the 5G software upgrade.

Users will be able to provide input to the tech giant on the usability and quality of the upcoming service as part of the Beta programme. In turn, this is anticipated to assist the business in locating problems and fixing them.

The upcoming release of Apple’s expensive operating system is called iOS 16. The next edition is anticipated to provide, among other things, more privacy and more personalization tools.

This occurs just a day after Gopal Vittal, the CEO of Airtel, verified the news, stating that Apple would start issuing its software update in the first week of November. He continued by saying that by mid-December, it was probably expected that all Apple devices would support Airtel’s 5G services.

Additionally, he stated that starting in mid-November, all Android handsets would be prepared for 5G rollout, and that Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, and realme devices were prepared for Airtel 5G.

This roughly reflects the prior schedule for 5G deployment provided by original equipment manufacturers. While Google had before stated that it was “actively working” with Indian telcos to enable 5G capability on its select handsets, Samsung had previously slated mid-November for its 5G software update.

OEMs and telcos are moving quickly at the same time since the government is pushing for a quicker rollout of 5G services.

In the midst of considerable hype, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced 5G services to the nation last month. Even though telecom operators spent a lot for the spectrum, the initial phase will probably assist OEMs and telcos assess the network’s quality and speed up implementation.

Although both Airtel and Reliance Jio have made their rollout plans for 5G public, it is still unclear who will become the dominating player in this market.
