OpenAI Inc. announced on Wednesday that it has entered into a partnership with Target Corp. to integrate artificial intelligence into the retail shopping experience, unveiling a new Target app within ChatGPT.
“We’re proud to be one of the first retailers bringing shopping into this new channel, partnering with OpenAI to make discovery through the Target app in ChatGPT as easy and joyful as browsing our aisles. Our goal is simple: make every interaction feel as natural, helpful and inspiring as chatting with a friend,” said Target’s Executive Vice President and Chief Information and Product Officer.
Launching in beta next week, the AI-powered feature will allow customers to request personalised suggestions, browse products, assemble multi-item carts, and even purchase fresh groceries — all directly through ChatGPT. Shoppers will be able to complete their orders using any preferred fulfillment method, including Drive Up, Order Pickup, or shipping.
Target also confirmed that it will continue leveraging OpenAI APIs and ChatGPT Enterprise internally to improve employee productivity and enhance overall customer experience.
