Missing Bengal woman reunited with family after 15 years with the help of Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority

Laxmi Parui, a 55 year old woman from Parganas district of West Bengal reuinted with her family after missing for 15 years due to the efforts of the Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority, officials said.

Parui, who was mentally disabled then got separated and reached Chattisgarh 15 years ago.

“In April 2017, a police constable in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district admitted the woman, who was then identified as Parvati Bai, to Sendri Mental Hospital in neighbouring Bilaspur district and since then she was undergoing treatment there,” the state legal services authority’s member secretary Siddharth Agrawal said on Monday. The Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority (CGSLSA) was informed in June that she recovered and recalled her whereabouts. They contacted the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) of West Bengal and her identity was duly established after investigation.

She reached Kolkata on Sunday, accompanied by constables of Government Railway Police and was later welcomed by her family members including her daughter and brother.

Justice Sanjib Banerjee, executive chairman of SLSA, West Bengal, has also ordered South 24 Parganas district authorities to provide free ration to the woman for her entire life.
