On Sunday, the quarterback competition in the AFC West saw a clear outcome when the Raiders decided to start Gardner Minshew. Meanwhile, another quarterback battle might have wrapped up during the Broncos’ game in Denver.

Bo Nix showcased his NFL-ready skills in their match against the Packers. He led the Broncos to score twice, putting them ahead 10-0 early in the second quarter. This impressive performance followed his strong debut in the preseason, where he threw for 125 yards and a touchdown in just 21 attempts against the Colts. While Nix’s efficiency was questioned after that game, he clearly resolved those concerns in his latest outing.

Nix is competing for the Broncos’ starting quarterback position against Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. Initially, Nix was considered third on the unofficial depth chart behind these two veterans as the season started. However, Nix’s starting role against the Packers, after Stidham started in the previous game, suggests that head coach Sean Payton might be reevaluating his options.

Nix’s performance against Green Bay could be a significant step toward securing the starting job for the Broncos.

The No. 12 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Bo Nix, made a strong case for the Broncos’ starting quarterback spot with his performance against the Packers. He completed 8 of his 9 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown, driving the Broncos to score twice. Notably, he led an impressive 80-yard drive that ended with a touchdown late in the second quarter. This drive featured a key 23-yard pass to Courtland Sutton and a touchdown pass to Tim Patrick.

Nix improved significantly from his preseason debut, where he averaged just six yards per pass attempt. On Sunday, he boosted that average to 8.9 yards per attempt and did not make any turnovers.

One significant factor in the quarterback competition is that head coach Sean Payton seemed satisfied with just Nix’s nine passes. Despite Nix throwing 21 passes in his first preseason game, he was replaced by Jarrett Stidham midway through the second quarter of this game.

The big question now is whether Nix will play in the Broncos’ final preseason game against the Cardinals. If Denver decides to name him the starter before that game, it could mean that Nix will not see any more action until the season opener against Seattle on September 8.
