A video circulating widely on social media — including a post from X (formerly Twitter) — has triggered intense debate over Nigeria’s emergency response systems following a major road accident involving British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua. The footage, shared by user @inkwakuzi_, shows chaotic scenes at the crash site and has drawn sharp criticism from viewers concerned about the apparent lack of professional medical care.

A disturbing video circulating on social media has ignited widespread outrage and renewed scrutiny of Nigeria’s emergency response system following a fatal road accident reportedly involving Anthony Joshua. The footage, shared on X (formerly Twitter), shows scenes from shortly after the crash and has sparked intense debate over the absence of visible medical care at the accident site.

The crash, which occurred on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, claimed two lives, while Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and reportedly sustained minor injuries. However, it is the handling of the aftermath—rather than the crash itself—that has drawn the strongest reactions online.

What the Viral Video Shows

The video shows chaotic scenes at the crash site, with damaged vehicles and bystanders present. Most notably, viewers pointed out the lack of an ambulance or trained medical responders immediately after the incident. Instead, Anthony Joshua is seen sitting upright inside a police vehicle shortly after the crash.

Social media users have criticised this response, noting that basic trauma protocols typically require accident victims to be laid flat, stabilised, and assessed for spinal or internal injuries before being moved.

Official Account of the Crash

Nigerian authorities have confirmed that the accident involved a Lexus SUV in which Joshua was travelling. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the vehicle was suspected to be travelling beyond the legally prescribed speed limit.

Officials stated that the SUV lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre and crashed into a stationary truck parked along the roadside near the Sagamu Interchange. Five adult males were involved in the crash, with two fatalities confirmed, two people escaping unhurt, and Joshua sustaining minor injuries before being taken for medical attention.
