World No. 1, Ashleigh Barty has announced her retirement from professional tennis. The 25-year-old played her last natch this year at the Australian Open final winning her third Grand Slam defeating Danielle Collins.
“Today is difficult and filled with emotion for me as I announce my retirement from tennis,” wrote Barty on her official Instagram handle. She further stated that she was not sure about how to share the news. The player then took help from her friend Casey Dellacqua in telling the world about her quitting the sport. Barty thanked tennis and is leaving the sport with “proud and fulfilled.” In the end, the Australian Open champion thanked everyone throughout her journey.
With Australian retiring, Iga Swiatek will be going on top of the WTA Rankings. The Polish moved up to No. 2 following her tremendous run at the Indian Wells Masters 2022 triumph.
Ash Barty will be having a press conference tomorrow to inform more about her decision of leaving tennis.
