The Russian had a successful 2021 season when she reached her Grand Slam Final in Paris winning the Olympic mixed doubles gold medal and led Russia to the Billie Jean King Cup title, the first time since 2008. Whilst she hasn’t won a Tour title since 2018, the Russian broke new ground in 2021 by achieving her first Grand Slam final at the French Open where she, unfortunately, lost to Barbora Krejčíková. During that same year, she reached a career-high of 11th in the world.

The 30-year-old tweeted her absence as she had to go through rehabilitation for her knee injury so that she could be back as soon as possible, being fit as well. The pain in her knee had forced her to miss out on the tournaments held in Dubai, Doha and St.Petersburg.

Pavlyuchenkova had also tested positive for COVID-19 in the Australian Open which was held from 17th to 30th of January, 2022. She reached the third round but lost it to Sorana Cirstea.

Pavlyuchenkova in an interview with WTA Insider opened up about her performances surrounding the injury, where she said that she wanted to give her best in the new year of tournaments and leave no stone unturned so that, she would leave with no regrets after her time has passed.
Despite the best season of her career with the Olympics medal, Billie Jean King Cup and  Davis Cup, the Russian is still hungry for a top 10 position as she describes it as her long term goal that she has never achieved.

Pavlyuchenkova is set to attend the French Open, this year’s second Grand Slam, where she is a finalist, from May 22nd.
