Marian Vajda, 56, had trained Djokovic from his teen years throughout his adult years, witnessing the 20 time Grand Slam winner, except for a temporary split in 2017. The duo had reunited back in 2018 where the Serbian won eight out of twelve majors he had participated in over the following three years. “During my time with Novak, I have been very lucky to watch him transform into the player he is today”, Vajda said in a statement. He also added that he is seeking fresh opportunities following the split for the second time.
“Marian has been by my side during the most important and memorable moments in my career. While he might be leaving the professional team, he will always be family and I can’t thank him enough”, said the Serbian as he explained his coaching agreement changes as the World No.2 has parted ways with the Slovak once again as he faces issues regarding vaccination, after deportation in Australia and following his defeat at the Dubai Tennis Championships to Jiri Vesely in the quarter-finals. The 34-year-old has been prevented from defending his title as he was reluctant to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, losing the No.1 ranking to Daniil Medvedev on Monday. But his unvaccinated status shall also be a hindrance regarding his presence in Indian Wells and Miami this season and remains questionable over the possibility to perform.
What a journey Marian. 15 years! 🤯😃 You have been by my side during the most important & memorable moments. We have achieved the unachievable & I will forever be grateful for your friendship & dedication. You will always be my family & I can’t thank you enough for everything 🙏🏻 pic.twitter.com/8ihJP2VpiS

While Vajda has not been the only coach to see Djokovic rise to tennis fame, former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic, tennis legend Boris Becker had also served as his head coach in the years 2019 and through 2013 to 2016 respectively.
