Clay season has already kicked off ahead of the prominent second Grand Slam of the year. Fans are waiting to witness Djokovic’s again at the major as he was not allowed to play at the Australian Open 2022. The Serb was one of the heavy favourites of the tournament that was won by another huge favourite Rafael Nadal.
Following his deportation from Melbourne over a controversial medical exception and unknown vaccination status, the Serbian player appeared for only two tournaments this year where he was a departure early. Recently, Djokovic was defeated by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina at the Round of 32 of the Monte Carlo despite being one of the favourites of the Masters event. The 34-year-old later revealed that he was not ready for the event and he knew before he took part in it. However, the 21-times major champion wanted to have some practice.
No. 1 in the world Novak expects support from Belgrade while he plays his first match on the home soil to win a record the third title at the Serbian Open. While he talked about the fans at Belgrade, he said he never played any tournament in the week of Roland Garros but the previous year that made him realise he “made a good decision ahead of the French Open,” said Djokovic in a press conference, reported serbiaopen.org.
The top-seeded player also expressed his readiness for the second Grand Slam and further told, “Rolan-Garros is the quintessential clay-court tournament and I am partly already there in my thoughts, in terms of preparations and everything I do at the moment to get there as ready as I can be.”
Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal is also working on his return to his favourite clay tournament having won a record of 13 French Open titles and the Spaniard has been in his greatest form this year.
