An expected final between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic was assumed at the Wimbledon 2022 but the Spanish professional was forced to retire against Nick Kyrgios at the semifinals. The player reached that level by defeating Taylor Fritz in a nail-biting match.
Nadal who won both of the initial Grand Slams of the year namely the Australian Open and the French Open, where he bagged his record-extending 14th Roland Garros title, now has 22 majors which are the most in men’s singles history. While on the other hand, Djokovic, who won his first major previously at the grass court outlasting Kyrgios now has 21, one less than Nadal.
In the meantime, American former tennis player John McEnroe talked about how different both tennis stars are. “Well, they are totally opposite approaches,” McEnroe told the BBC. The American further said, “Djokovic talks openly about wanting to have the most [Grand Slam singles titles] and Nadal acts like nothing matters except going out and giving an effort every point and every match.”
Meanwhile, the Spanish professional was seen back on the court today with a tennis racquet and looked healthy. The only concern about him has been his foot injury this year that kept making him uncomfortable throughout the 2022 tennis season and yet the Spaniard was able to make it to 22 majors among which, two were won this year. While on the other hand, Djokovic is just one major away to equal it with rival Nadal.
