Novak Djokovic’s return to clay didn’t go as expected. The Serb got eliminated by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round of the Monte-Carlo Masters event.
The Spaniard with the biggest win of his career outlasted World No. 1 in a match that was majorly dominated by Davidovich as he beat Djokovic with the score of 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1 to advance to the third round.
The No. 1 ATP player was back after a long since he was departed from the Dubai Tennis Championships at the hands of Jiri Vesely in the quarterfinals. He couldn’t even defend his 21st Grand Slam which was won by Rafael Nadal defeating World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev of Russia. Djokovic was deported from Australia following his controversial medical exception and Visa cancellation.
