France secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Iceland in last night’s World Cup Qualifiers, with Kylian Mbappé once again proving decisive.
Iceland took an early lead, but Mbappé, who has been in scintillating form, brought Les Bleus back into the contest with a well-taken equaliser in the first half. The Paris-born star continued to cause problems for the Icelandic defence throughout the game.
In the second half, Bradley Barcola stepped up to deliver the winner, striking in the 62nd minute to put France ahead. However, the game turned tense when Aurélien Tchouaméni was sent off in the 68th minute, leaving France with ten men for the final stages.
Despite the setback, Didier Deschamps’ side showed resilience and composure to hold on to their lead, collecting another vital three points on the road to the World Cup.
