West Ham collected all three points in a crucial game which took them one step further to the top four. With Manchester United dropping points against Watford on Saturday, West Ham moved up to 5th with just two points off of 4th placed United. It was a much-needed win as David Moyes’ men won only one game in their last five.

The hosts dominated the first half with attempts from Antonio and Bowen. They were unlucky not to go ahead as their forwards wasted chances and Rice hit the post from 25 yards. Wolves also came close to taking the lead through South Korean forward, Hwang Hee-chan, but he was inches wide. Just before half-time, West Ham orchestrated a brilliant move but failed to score as Lanzini found the side of the net.

Wolves were overwhelmed in the first 45 minutes but showed more energy and resilience in the second half. Despite the extra effort, a cunning pass from Antonio allowed Soucek to open the scoring in the 59th minute. Jarrod Bowen had a chance to double their lead less than 10 minutes later, but he rushed the opportunity and played it into Jose Sa’s hands.

From there, the visitors worked hard to try and get back into the game but they were largely limited to shots from range. And after an excellent performance, West Ham ran out as well deserved 1-0 winners.
