Spanish club Villarreal CF have nearly completed the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Arsenal.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move with his iconic “Here we go!” announcement, revealing that Partey joins the La Liga side after four seasons at the Emirates. The 32-year-old departs Arsenal having made over 100 appearances in all competitions.
Partey’s arrival at Villarreal comes amid ongoing legal proceedings in the UK. The midfielder has been granted conditional bail after being charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. These serious allegations have cast a shadow over the transfer, though the player has consistently maintained his innocence.
Partey’s legal representative, Wilshire, stated earlier this year that the player “denies all the charges against him” and “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”
