Napoli, who had been in excellent form recently, were left frustrated on the night as they failed to find the back of the net. Their task became even more difficult after an early red card reduced them to ten men, giving City a crucial advantage.
The breakthrough came after the interval when Erling Haaland, City’s star striker, converted with his trademark finishing touch. Shortly after, Jeremy Doku doubled the lead with a fine effort, sealing all three points for the defending Premier League champions.
With this win, City have laid down an early marker in Group Stage action, while Napoli will need to regroup quickly if they are to keep their qualification hopes alive.
