Manchester City’s last week’s loss to Tottenham Hotspur opened the door for Liverpool in the title race, but Spurs’ setback to Burnley on Wednesday tightened the relegation gap dramatically. City’s Premier League championship defence appeared to be a foregone conclusion for much of this season. However, the City has recently dropped points, drawing with Southampton in January and losing at home to Tottenham in February.

Liverpool, who have won their last six league games in a row, were able to seize the opportunity. The title race has been blown wide open in an instance. Jurgen Klopp’s club is only three points behind Pep Guardiola’s, which may make the match between the two sides on April 10 at the Etihad Stadium a title decider.

Whilst Norwich, Watford, and Burnley remain in the bottom three, now four teams are hanging anxiously above the relegation zone, including Everton, who are just two points ahead of 18th-placed Burnley, along with Newcastle United.
