Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has thrown his full backing behind manager Rúben Amorim, dismissing any notion of sacking the Portuguese coach despite the club’s inconsistent start to the season.
Speaking on The Business Podcast, Ratcliffe made it clear that he has no intentions of bowing to outside pressure, even if the Glazer family were to suggest Amorim’s dismissal. “It’s not gonna happen,” he said firmly. “Amorim hasn’t had the best of seasons… but he needs to demonstrate he’s a great coach over three years.”
Ratcliffe’s comments come amid growing scrutiny from sections of the English media and frustrated fans, as United continue to struggle for consistency under the former Sporting CP boss. However, the INEOS chief urged patience and long-term thinking, taking a dig at the press for their tendency to demand instant success.
“The English press, sometimes I don’t understand! They want overnight success… they think it’s a light switch,” Ratcliffe said. “You can’t run a club like Manchester United on knee-jerk reactions to some journalist who goes off on one every week.”
