Scotland midfielder John McGinn told after their exit from the Euro 2020 tournament that the World Cup is their aim now. Reaching the major championship like Euros must be the start and not the end.

Scotland’s match against Croatia in their matchday 3 needed a win to qualify for the round of 16, following their previous goalless draw against England and their loss vs Czech Republic 2-0, but their dreams got ruined today when Croatia defeated them 3-1 at Hampden.

Steve Clarke’s men took part in their first major finals since the 1998 World Cup in France and have not gone further than the group stage since then. “We have got use this to drive us on to more tournaments. They are an excellent team and we were aware of that. We were ignoring all the noise that they were an ageing team and slow but they were not. They have got one of the best players in the world and that’s Luka Modric,” told McGinn to ITV.

Scotland has not scored any goal in the Euro since 1996. Callum McGregor’s first International goal vs Croatia was the first time they netted in Euro 2020 which was not enough to qualify them ahead of the group stage.

“What we have done is created history coming here and we want this to be the start and not the end. The World Cup is our aim now,” said McGinn.
