Leicester City is close to signing Ryan Bertrand amid Arsenal’s interest in the former England international. The Southampton player is leaving the club this summer.

Ryan Bertrand has expressed his intentions to leave Southampton this summer. Bertrand completed a permanent move to Southampton, on 2 February 2015, signing a 4+12-year deal for an undisclosed fee, reported to be in the region of £10 million. On 12 May 2021, Southampton announced that Bertrand would leave the club when his contract expires in the summer.

Intertest in the left-back has since then ramped up with the likes of Arsenal and Leicester City looking to sign the player on a free transfer. Arsenal has targeted the signing of a backup left-back to first choice Kieran Tierney due to concerns over his injury record. Leicester City has qualified for next season’s Europa League and aims to add depth to the squad in paper-thin positions.

However, reports from Arsenal correspondents in various news sites reported that Arsenal was no longer looking in signing the 31-year old former Chelsea player with the club focusing its efforts on signing a younger left-back. This latest development puts Leicester in a pole position to sign the English fullback, with reports suggesting that the two parties are close to an agreement.

In 29 appearances for Southampton in the 2020/21 Premier League season, Bertrand recorded 1 assist.
