The representatives of the Polish international and Bayern Munich striker have confirmed to Goal and SPOX the end of a sponsorship deal of the star with the Chinese technology company, Huawei, ‘giving up a lot of money, after learning that the Chinese company have allegedly helped the country to secure its network against cyber-attacks following the invasion of its neighbouring country, Ukraine.

The Polish star has been forward about his support and solidarity towards the Easter-European country throughout the ongoing crisis, including supporting the Polish Federation’s decision of pulling away from the World Cup playoffs which were set to be played against the Russian country in Qatar this year.

Max Bielefeld, the manager of all sporting and business interests of Robert added that the issue was very important for the Polish and that he was willing to give up a lot of money in the process. “Today we decided to end the marketing cooperation between Robert Lewandowski and the Huawei brand”, reported the AFP news agency, following the decision taken in light of the events going on in Ukraine.

Robert Lewandowski is the global ambassador for the Chinese technology company and has helped the company to expand its reach in Europe which includes Poland, central and eastern Europe and Scandinavia with his high-profile appearance in the company’s commercials and PR profiles. But cutting off the same deal would mean a loss of around 5 million pounds.

Huawei has responded by saying that the end of the partnership is deeply regretted and that they appreciate the long-term cooperation from the Polish who has decided to quit his role as regional ambassador for the company.  However, they have firmly denied their claims of involvement with the Russian invasion, according to daily mail.
