Real Madrid won the La Liga game against Athletic Club on Sunday night, 22nd January. The visitors played well and dominated the host in the game to close the gap between the table-toppers FC Barcelona and them.
Real Madrid scored two goals in the game to earn three points which take them to second place with 41 points in 17 games they played this season so far. Real Madrid’s striker Karim Benzema who was the top scorer in the league last season along with the UEFA Champions League, scored the first goal of the game and help the defending champions to take the deserved lead against Athletic Club.
Karim Benzema scored a left-footed volley and it was assisted by their forward Marco Asensio. The 24th minute lead was enough for the visitors to be happy before going into the tunnel for half-time. Athletic Club did create some great chances to score in the game but they couldn’t do it. Later in the second half, midfielder Toni Kroos scores the second goal for Real Madrid in the game to get the job done.
