Following the sanctions faced by the English club from the UK government, the Premier League Board has decided to disqualify the club’s 19 year-long Russian owners, in light of recent events. However, the disqualification does not refrain the club from training or playing the fixtures. The club now functions under the license provided by the government until May 2022.
Roman however tried to sell the club ahead of the sanctions faced by him during the Russian invasion of Ukraine but was unable to do so before the situation escalated. As a reason of which, Chelsea’s shirt sponsor, Three has pulled out of the sponsorship contract. The club’s credit has also been halted by Barclays initially, as a measure to stop the club from transfers and economic activities but the club now functions under a government license, as the UK realised the cultural significance of the club to the football Blues.
The situation of the club now remains uncertain but fixtures and training are set to be continued as scheduled.
