Olympian Chandresekharan who was a prime figure for the Indian Football Community left the heavenly soul at the age of 86. For the last 10 years, he was suffering from Dementia and was declared dead in Kochi at his home on Tuesday. He played as a defender for the team.

The 1960 Rome Olympics were the last games when India represented themselves at a Football event and India held France by 1-1 with an exceptional play by Chandrasekaran and his teammate defenders who saved the game. His death comes after SS Hakim who was also part of the same team representing India at the Rome.

He was also a part of the Gold winning team at the Asian games 1962 along with a silver in the 1964 AFC Asian Cup and Merdeka Tournament. He was one of the greatest names in the Indian Football federation alongside PK Banerjee, Chuni Goswami, Tulsidas Balaraman, Simon Sunderraj, Peter Thangaraj, Jarnail Singh, and Mariappa Kempaiah.

The football world is sad by the demise of this legend. He started his carrier at Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam and then continued to play for Cartlex. After he retired from International Football, he represented the State Bank Of India and also captained Maharastra Team who won the Santosh Trophy in 1963.
