Newcastle United have begun their search for a new goalkeeper after their move for James Trafford fell through. The Magpies had been in advanced talks with Burnley for the 21-year-old, but the deal collapsed after Manchester City activated their buy-back clause to re-sign Trafford.
With the transfer falling apart, Newcastle have now shifted their focus to Aaron Ramsdale, who spent last season at Southampton. Despite Ramsdale’s efforts between the sticks, the Saints were relegated and will be playing in the Championship next season, making a move for the England international more feasible.
Newcastle are eager to strengthen their goalkeeping department ahead of the new Premier League campaign, and Ramsdale’s top-flight experience makes him a strong candidate. Negotiations are expected to begin soon as Eddie Howe looks to secure a reliable shot-stopper for the coming season.
