Newcastle have strengthened their goalkeeping department by agreeing a deal to sign Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton on an initial season-long loan. The Magpies moved quickly for the 26-year-old after talks to sign James Trafford collapsed, with Eddie Howe identifying Ramsdale as the ideal alternative.
The agreement does not include a buy option, meaning Ramsdale will return to Southampton at the end of the campaign. The England international is expected to undergo his medical in the coming days before being unveiled as Newcastle’s latest signing.
Ramsdale, who joined Southampton last season, will provide valuable competition between the sticks as Newcastle aim to strengthen their squad for the upcoming Premier League season.
