Scott McTominay continues to turn certainty into spectacle. On a pulsating UEFA Champions League night, Napoli were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Copenhagen, but once again it was the Scottish midfielder who rose to the occasion, underlining his growing importance since his move to Italy.

Copenhagen struck first through a 35th-minute effort from Thomas Delaney, putting Napoli under unexpected pressure at home. The Danish side even had a golden chance to double their lead when Jonas Larsson converted from the spot in the 72nd minute, only for VAR drama to keep the contest alive. Napoli needed a response, and they found it in the most reliable source they have this season.

Just four minutes after Copenhagen’s goal, McTominay arrived with perfect timing to restore parity in the 39th minute, scoring Napoli’s equaliser and igniting the stadium.

Since joining Napoli, McTominay has arguably been enjoying the best season of his career. He is currently the club’s top scorer in the Champions League and their second-highest scorer in Serie A, remarkable numbers for a midfielder once labelled as a purely defensive presence. His latest strike means he has now scored four goals in his last five games, taking his overall tally to 11 goals and three assists across all competitions.
