Manchester United’s Danish forward Rasmus Højlund will sport the No. 9 shirt for the 2024-25 season. Højlund, who wore No. 11 when he joined the club from Atalanta last summer, is now set to continue in a new number.
In a recent announcement, Manchester United shared a picture of Højlund in the new season’s kit, highlighting the No. 9 on his shirt. This number change might signal the allocation of a different number to new signing Joshua Zirkzee. Marcus Rashford is expected to keep the No. 10 jersey.
Under manager Erik ten Hag, United could deploy a four-man attack this season. Højlund is likely to play as the main striker, with Alejandro Garnacho and Rashford positioned on the wings. Zirkzee, who featured for the Netherlands at the 2024 EURO, might act as a secondary striker, providing backup for Højlund.
The club’s Instagram post celebrating the new No. 9 jersey highlighted the history of the number, worn previously by notable forwards including Anthony Martial, Bobby Charlton, Andy Cole, Dimitar Berbatov, and Zlatan Ibrahimović. With this new role, Højlund is set to continue the prestigious legacy associated with the number.
