One of the most anticipated transfer sagas seems to be on the verge of completion as reports suggest that Liverpool have an agreement in place with Bayern Munich for the transfer of midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

Manager of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has been desperate to get this signing over the line as he looks to bolster his midfield to defend their Premier League title this season. The earlier stages of negotiation suggested that the club from Merseyside were too reluctant to pay the transfer fee of around 30 million euros for Thiago as the player enters his final year of contract with the German giants.

Negotiations have accelerated since Monday after Bayern officials made it clear they wanted a deal completed before the start of the Bundesliga season, which starts tomorrow with the European champions hosting Schalke.Though the midfielder still has to finalise terms, that part should be more straightforward.

The Spanish international had negotiated a contract extension in May, but he changed his mind just before signing, telling Bayern that he wanted to take up a “new challenge”. Since then Liverpool has been his preferred destination.

Thiago is a great passer of the ball with some fantastic vision on the field. His creativity is the exact sort of element that the current English Champions have been missing in the middle of the park. The number of signings that have been done by the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, who are going to be direct rivals to Liverpool this season must have been one of the factors that urged the Liverpool board to get the signing across the line as soon as it would be possible.
