Manchester United have suffered a massive blow as their key centre-back, Lisandro Martínez, has been ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL. The Argentine defender sustained the serious injury during United’s 4-0 defeat against Crystal Palace on Sunday in the Premier League.

The incident occurred in the second half when Martínez went down in visible pain and had to be stretchered off. Initial assessments suggested a significant injury, and subsequent scans confirmed the worst—a torn ACL. This means the 26-year-old will be sidelined for several months, potentially missing the start of the next season as well.

This is another cruel setback for Martínez, who has struggled with injuries throughout the 2023–24 campaign. His absence will leave a huge void in United’s defense, especially at a crucial time in their push for European qualification. Erik ten Hag will now have to reshuffle his defensive options, relying on the likes of Raphaël Varane, Harry Maguire, and Victor Lindelöf to fill the gap.
