Lionel Messi, who just won a major international trophy with Argentina defeating Brazil 1-0 in Copa America on Sunday is all set to extend his journey at Barcelona by signing a new five-year contract which will be until June 2026 rather than 2023.

Argentine Talisman, who was rumoured with other club signings, Fabrizio Romano the transfer expert confirmed that there was no real chance for any other club this summer except Barcelona and it will be announced soon.

He is all set to sign until 2026 with a wage cut reported by La Vanguardia newspaper and ESPN on Wednesday. Barcelona’s all-time top scorer with most appearances made, Lionel Messi’s official contract with the club ended last month which resulted in making him a free agent after the prior deal ended.

Barcelona, since Joan Laporte took over as Spanish giant’s president, has been attempting to reduce its wage bill to keep the Argentine in the club and dwell within LaLiga’s authoritarian monetary control rules.

Laliga president Javier Tebas said the previous week that Barcelona would not be implied any compassion since they have an amount of debt of more than 1 billion euros ($1.18 billion).

Messi who captains both, his nation Argentina as well as his club Barcelona last sighed his contract in 2017, which was the most lucrative in the world sport according to a report in January in El Mundo newspaper.
