The Argentine icon, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, reflected on his unforgettable journey with the Catalan club and the circumstances that forced him to leave in 2021.
Messi admitted that spending his entire career at Barcelona had always been his dream. “I wanted to end my entire career at Barça without having to go to another club,” he said while accepting the award. “Unfortunately, things turned out differently, but I am very grateful for this award.”
During his time at Camp Nou, Messi experienced historic triumphs, emotional highs, and challenging moments. He acknowledged that his long journey with the club naturally included both the good and the not-so-good, but that is what made the experience meaningful. “We went through so many things together, the good and the not-so-good, and that’s natural because over a long career, not everything is beautiful,” he added.
