Former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has officially announced his retirement from professional football and taken up a key backroom role at the club. The 36-year-old has been appointed as the new Head of Loans and pathways at Manchester United.
Evans, who returned to the club last season under then-manager Erik ten Hag and continued briefly under new head coach Rúben Amorim, now transitions into a strategic position aimed at nurturing and developing young talent. In this role, he will work closely with the Director of Football and the Director of the Academy to manage player development, focusing on ensuring the club’s emerging prospects are ready to perform at the first-team level.
Having come through United’s academy himself and enjoyed a long Premier League career, Evans brings both experience and a deep understanding of the club’s culture.
His appointment marks another step in United’s push to re-establish a strong link between the youth academy and the senior squad, with the aim of producing top-level talent capable of contributing consistently in the coming years.
