Bengaluru FC announced on Monday that Sarthak Golui, a promising Indian defender, has signed a two-year contract with the club. After Yrondu Musavu-King, Alan Costa, and Rohit Kumar, the 23-year-old becomes the Blues fourth summer signing and will join the squad ahead of the next AFC Cup quarterfinal stage match against Eagles FC.

Golui, a Kolkata-born, came up through the ranks of the AIFF Elite Academy and has played for clubs in the I-League and Indian Super League.

Before his arrival to Bengaluru, Golui had 49 caps in the ISL with FC Pune City, Mumbai City FC, and SC East Bengal. Sarthak Golui had a strong debut season in the Hero ISL with FC Pune City in 2017-18, scoring a goal and three assists in 15 games during the Stallions’ journey to the semi-finals. Despite Pune’s struggles in the 2018-19 season, the defender put in a good performance, scoring two assists in 12 games. Sarthak, a speedy defender with good crossing skills, was one of Mumbai City FC’s finest defenders in the 2019-20 season, registering 113 clearances and 46 tackles while also scoring once. During the Hero ISL 2020-21 January transfer window, he joined SC East Bengal.

“To be part of a club that has been so successful brings with it a huge responsibility, and I hope I can fulfil all the expectations the club and its fans have from me,” Sarthak said after signing his contract.

“This move will also give me a chance to learn from experienced players like Sunil bhai and Gurpreet bhai, and I am looking forward to meeting all my teammates soon.” he further said.

“He is a versatile player who can fill in at both right-back and centre-back positions,” coach Marco Przzaiuoli said of the club’s latest addition.

Golui made his senior national team debut against Sri Lanka at the 2018 SAFF Championship in Bangladesh, having previously represented India at the U-16 and U-19 levels.
