Manchester United have sparked fresh debate around their goalkeeping department after André Onana was surprisingly left out of the squad, despite being fully fit. The Cameroonian shot-stopper, who joined United last summer to replace David de Gea, has now found himself benched, raising questions over his long-term role at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim, who recently addressed the media, played down the situation but his comments only added fuel to the speculation.

“I didn’t drop Onana, I just put two players ahead of him who trained well with us for the last two weeks,” Amorim explained, suggesting that the decision was based on form rather than fitness.

Nevertheless, the timing of this development is notable. With the summer transfer window edging towards its final days, rumors have already linked United with potential moves for goalkeepers such as Emiliano Martínez and other names in Europe. Turkish international Altay Bayindir, who deputized in Onana’s absence, was handed a rare start, but questions remain whether the club views him as a reliable long-term No.1.
