Hugo Ekitike has revealed the reasons behind his decision to join Liverpool, turning down interest from Newcastle United and Manchester United in the process. The French forward described the Reds as the “best option” for his career, citing the club’s history and status as Premier League champions.
“Liverpool are Premier League champions, with great players and great history,” Ekitike said when asked about his move. “I think it was a good choice for me and that’s why I chose Liverpool as it was the best option and I wanted to come.”
The 22-year-old striker, long regarded as one of the brightest young attacking talents in Europe, had been on the radar of both Newcastle and Manchester United. Newcastle, in particular, have been admirers of Ekitike for some time, previously attempting to secure his signature during past transfer windows. United, too, had identified him as a potential addition to bolster their frontline.
However, Liverpool managed to convince Ekitike to make Anfield his new home. The move underlines the club’s ambition to continue building for the future while also refreshing their attacking options.
