Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has insisted that there is “absolutely no problem” with Lamine Yamal after the teenager appeared frustrated when he was substituted during Barça’s 2–1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League last night.
Yamal, who started the match and once again showcased his flair on the right flank, was withdrawn in the closing stages as Barça looked to protect their lead. Cameras captured the youngster reacting with visible disappointment, but Flick made it clear post-match that the situation was normal and nothing to worry about.
“It’s Lamine, just like anyone else,” Flick said with a smile when asked about the incident. “He was already on a yellow card, there were five minutes to go, and we had to make a change. That’s why.”
Barcelona were in control for most of the match, with goals from Jules Kounde securing a crucial away win in the group stage. Frankfurt pulled one back late in the game, prompting Flick to make tactical adjustments, including the removal of Yamal to avoid a potential second booking.
“But I understand his reaction,” Flick continued. “Everyone wants to stay on the pitch. He thinks he can play 90–100 minutes, he’s young and it’s okay. It’s a good attitude, no problem for me.”
