Bayern Munich got defeated in their last group stages game of FIFA Club World Cup 2025. The game was against Benfica who inches a close victory (1-0). Benfica and Bayern, both are qualified for the knockout stages as they remain on 1st and 2nd place respectively. Meanwhile, Boca Juniors and Auckland City have got eliminated.
Benfica sealed a narrow 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich in their final group stage match of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, topping Group C in the process. The Portuguese giants edged past the German champions in a tightly contested affair, with both sides already having one foot in the knockout stages prior to kickoff.
The only goal of the match came early in the first half, when Norwegian winger Andreas Schjelderup converted a pinpoint cross from Fredrik Aursnes to give Benfica a crucial lead in the 13th minute. Bayern, fielding a rotated lineup under new head coach Vincent Kompany, struggled to find rhythm in the opening 45 minutes and failed to register a single shot on target before halftime.
The Bavarians came out stronger after the break, showing more urgency and attacking intent. They came close to equalizing on several occasions, with Joshua Kimmich even having a goal ruled out for offside. However, Benfica’s defense stood firm to preserve the clean sheet and secure all three points.
