Chelsea’s young sensation Estêvão was full of praise for teammate Enzo Fernández after the Blues’ emphatic 5-1 victory over Ajax in the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 group stage clash at Stamford Bridge last night.

The Brazilian wonderkid, who scored his first Champions League goal in the rout, revealed in an interview with ESPN that Enzo Fernández had selflessly handed him the ball to take a penalty, a gesture that deeply moved him.

“Let me say thanks to Enzo Fernández,” Estêvão said. “He’s a sensational guy, he gave me the opportunity to take the penalty. I didn’t expect that. I looked at him, he gave me the ball, I was very happy.”

Estêvão, who joined Chelsea from Palmeiras amid huge expectations, converted the spot-kick with calm composure to make it 4-1, further cementing his reputation as one of Europe’s brightest young talents.

This reflects a lot of our group — very united,” Estêvão added. “Everyone helps each other, whether you’re a starter or on the bench. It’s a great environment to grow in.”

The dominant win over Ajax saw goals from Tyrique George, Marc Guiu, Moises Caicedo, Estêvão, and Enzo Fernandez as Chelsea extended their unbeaten run in Europe. Enzo Fernández, who controlled the midfield throughout the match, earned plaudits for his leadership both on and off the pitch.
